Employing EU/EEA and Swiss citizens in Slovakia

EU/EEA and Swiss citizens can be employed in Slovakia under the same conditions as Slovak citizens. No work or any other permit is needed in order to be able to work.

Though, the employer is obliged according to § 23b par.6 of the Act on Employment Services to report to the local Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family the commencement and termination of the employment relationship or the beginning and end of posting of a worker to perform work in the Slovak Republic. The obligation has to be fulfilled within 7 working days from the start/end of employment/posting by delivering the so-called Information Card – start (Annex 8a), or Information Card – end (Annex 8b) either by post, in person or electronically through the central public administration portal slovensko.sk . More information can be obtained at the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family or International Organization for Migration IOM .

The competent Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family means the office in whose territorial district an EU citizen will be employed or will carry out work as a posted worker. That means that the place of employment/work, not the employer’s registered office is decisive. The Information Card must be submitted for each work position to the relevant office according to the place of work.

After receiving the form and checking its completeness, the Office will send the document “Confirmation of receipt of the Information Card” to the employer’s electronic box through the central public administration portal slovensko.sk. The employer shall keep a copy of the forms certified by the Office for the purpose of inspections carried out by the Office or the Labour Inspectorate.

More detailed information is available on the websites of the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family and the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family.
